Mating Call: Sonnet #1 3/1/17

when birds try to attract a mate,

a flurry of movement do they make

with wings outstretched and colors bold

flapping, bouncing, foot to foot

all for attention for them to hold.

Humans have their rituals too

awkward stance and fated glance

flirtation built from hopeful like

yet in this coffee-shop, the

mating ground, she, the lovely

lady bird turns in pretty indifference

the mating call denied
